The church of Sant'Andrea was unable to contain the large crowd that in Tortolì wanted to say their last farewell to Silvia Piu, who passed away suddenly yesterday at the age of 47. She was the mother of Anna Laura Pilia, the little ten-year-old sailor who died last August 8 during an accident in the waters of Arbatax while practicing her favorite sport, sailing.
Too great the void left. Only five months ago, in this same church, the same infinite pain.
In the churchyard hundreds of people from all over Ogliastra. The community stopped and gathered around the family: the husband Bruno Pilia, the son Gianluca and all the loved ones. Activities suspended, shutters lowered during the funeral, as invited by the administration as a sign of closeness. Friends, colleagues, administrators, schoolmates joined in the double pain of a family . It is difficult to find words that can even remotely soothe such deep pain.
"We are almost helpless," said the parish priest of Sant'Andrea, Monsignor Piero Crobeddu, during the homily, "it is difficult to find the words, if not impossible to succeed in entering the hearts of you family members and above all to lighten them." At the end of the mass, the words broken by emotion of a friend, a tribute to Silvia: "You were a special person, beautiful as the sun, with the sweetness of your blue eyes, the color of the sky, that we can now see again on Gianluca's face. Always available to others, generous and altruistic. You always had a smile for everyone, which unfortunately over the last five months has given way to pain and torment, the only possible consolation that can remain to us at this time is to think that now you are with your little girl ."
