Thunderstorms and waterspouts from Sulcis to Cagliari: weather alert in Sardinia
From Tuerredda to the capital, storms are underway off the coast. Heavy rain is expected throughout the day.Temperatures remained high, and rain clouds moved from the Sardinian Channel toward the south of the island. The severe weather reached the southern coasts of the region in the form of thunderstorms with rain and hail, along with several tornadoes that provided an unexpected spectacle at sea.
The first was spotted in front of Tuerredda beach, in the Domus de Maria area, a column about a hundred meters high overlooking one of the most beautiful bays in southern Sardinia.
The second waterspout struck right in front of Poetto beach in Cagliari, where, after traveling a few kilometers, it petered out as soon as it touched land.
This second phenomenon was visible from various points in the Sardinian capital and was captured by several people who then posted photos and videos on chat rooms and social media.
Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm is also hitting Cagliari. No disruptions are reported so far: the Civil Protection Department issued a weather alert yesterday for a critical hydrogeological risk, valid until 9:00 PM today.
