A tragedy that has plunged the country into grief and despair. A 65-year-old woman, Paola Pusceddu , died late yesterday morning in her trusted doctor's office in via Trieste, in Sinnai, after the administration (it seems) of an antibiotic through an injection.
The investigation
But the cause of death will be established this morning by the coroner Alberto Chighine, on behalf of the public prosecutor Andrea Vacca who is coordinating the investigations, entrusted to the local police: an anaphylactic shock caused by the administration of a drug or a heart attack are the hypotheses being examined.
"In these cases - said the coroner Roberto Demontis - it is absolutely necessary to carry out the necropsy to eliminate any doubt". The examination on the woman's body is scheduled for this morning at 11 in the morgue of the new cemetery of Sinnai where the body was transferred in the early afternoon.
From the doctor
The woman had gone to the clinic on Via Trieste in the late morning for a medical visit. It seems she had breathing problems. After the visit, the general practitioner decided to start antibiotic therapy with an intramuscular injection. Suddenly, she became ill before the eyes of her daughter who had accompanied her to the clinic.
The rescue
In an attempt to save the woman's life, the city police used a defibrillator they had. It was the commander himself, Captain Fiori, who got into his car and crossed the provincial road in the wrong direction with sirens blaring in order to deliver the device in a few minutes. All in vain.
Until late in the evening, the police collected testimonies from the woman's relatives and patients present in the doctor's office. The news did not take long to reach all the homes of Sinnai. The mourning was huge in the town where many knew Paola Pusceddu.
