Seventh, the new “Our Lady of Fatima Hospice” inaugurated
With 15 rooms for terminally ill patients. At the ribbon cutting the regional councilor Doria and the archbishop of Cagliari BaturiFive years to build it, and now finally the ribbon cutting: the Madonna di Fatima Hospice is born in Settimo. This morning, after a conference that illustrated its aims and characteristics, the inauguration in the presence of the regional health councilor , Carlo Doria , and the archbishop of Cagliari , Giuseppe Baturi .
Fifteen independent rooms , where there are as many patients , not only cancer patients, who have reached the terminal stage : no possibility of recovery, fourth stage of palliative care. There are 12 places accredited for now and they are already occupied: the patients are those who until a few days ago were housed in the facility of the same name in Quartu. The Osat cooperative, in fact, changes headquarters: it closes Quartu, where it was rented, and opens Settimo, where it built the new headquarters, a stone's throw from the metro stop, with its own funds and from development funds intended for cooperatives. The ribbon cutting therefore takes place with the patients already in their rooms: single rooms, each with its own patio and direct access from the outside, each set up to accommodate a relative.
The building, explains Marta Farci, project manager of Osat , was conceived taking inspiration from the architectural concept of the home and with an eye to the experiences of Northern Europe. The service, accredited and affiliated with the regional health service, will be at no cost for guests.
