Flames in Settimo San Pietro in the San Pietro area. The fire developed among the brushwood, also attacking several olive trees, which had gone up in flames. Among these a secular tree.

Volunteers from Masise intervened on the spot during the night and this morning those from Vab also from Sinnai after the wind had favored the relaunch of the flames which had also attacked the oldest of these trees, which then collapsed and made safe with the hope that may soon re-sprout.

The scourge of fires knows no rest, it spares nothing, not even ancient monuments such as the olive trees which are part of the history of Sardinia but also of Settimo and neighboring towns.

It all started yesterday afternoon with the flames that attacked several hectares of land in the San Pietro area with damage to several olive trees. The fire was extinguished around 7.30pm with relative reclamation. The intervention was by Masise, the Vab, the Forestry of the fire brigade.

Around 10 pm the alarm went off again with the fire that had once again developed on a centuries-old tree: this time a new intervention by the Vab with the flames extinguished again. Now it is hoped that this tree will start growing again like the others reached by the flames with serious damage to the environment.
