A fiery inferno erupts in Arzana: homes threatened, about a hundred people evacuated. The mayor: "The situation is dramatic."

A fiery inferno erupted in Arzana, a short distance from the Nuoro-Lanusei state road 389.

Teams from the Forestry Corps and Civil Protection intervened to put out a large fire that had broken out in the Riu Sicaderba area, supported by several light helicopters and the Super Puma from the Fenosu base. Canadair aircraft were also deployed, for a total of eight aircraft in the air for containment and extinguishing operations. Firefighters from Nuoro and the surrounding province also responded, with 30 personnel and thirteen vehicles, as well as volunteers and law enforcement.

Arzana Mayor Angelo Stochino described the situation as "dramatic," with flames threatening the Monte Idolo Forestry complex and a pine forest . The blaze, fueled by strong winds, also touched a residential area. For safety reasons, the Carabinieri requested the evacuation of several homes, and the Ahora community, which cares for psychiatric patients on the outskirts of Arzana, was also evacuated, with its residents transferred to the same organization's facilities in Gairo and Villanova. In total , about a hundred people were evacuated from the buildings.

The fire spread to the Elini area, with the sky completely covered in smoke.

As night fell, the emergency was still ongoing, with the flames still visible from a distance.
