Sardinian reformers pessimistic about the future of the Alghero terminal after the merger with the Costa Smeralda airport company. «Olbia, after decades of silent war against the Alghero port of call, will succeed in its intent. Perhaps many politicians have a short memory, or pretend not to remember, but in the privatization of the Algherese management company, Olbia played a decisive role», comments Alberto Bamonti, group leader of the Sardinian reformers in the city council.
«Our friends from Gallura didn't digest the excellent numbers that Alghero airport generated in terms of passenger transit, above all due to the fact that Sogeaal was publicly owned and could benefit from public funding, while the Olbia management company was private ».
According to Bamonti, once the Sassari-Olbia road has been completed, «the Alghero airport will no longer have a reason to exist - he predicts - because that favorable viability condition will be created for which the Gallura airport will be chosen for the management of all of North Sardinia. Thus, yet another slap in the face to our territory and to our inhabitants will take place, it will be the triumph of an arrogant and centralizing policy that benefits those already rich territories. My contribution will always continue to be in defense of a policy at the service of the people and the territory, and not a policy subservient to capital and the capitalists».
