A new hearing will be held in the trial against Andrea Giuntoli, accused of having shot and killed his fellow villager Francesco Salis, 44, from Santa Giusta, in 2024.
Following the request by prosecutor Lorenzo Cosseddu for an 11-year and two-month sentence for Andrea Giuntoli (with mitigating circumstances being recognized), the trial continued today under a summary procedure before Judge Serena Corrias.
The civil lawyers Luciano Rubattu and Fabio Costa (who are representing the victim's sister and two brothers) insisted on the futile reasons , believing that the 43-year-old worker shot from close range, aiming at vital organs, and asked for a conviction, as well as a provisional sum of 100 thousand euros for each family member.
Defense attorneys Marina Caria and Patrizio Rovelli invoked self-defense, arguing that Giuntoli reacted because he found himself in a dangerous situation when Francesco Salis was attacking him with a billhook. They further emphasized that there was no intent to kill. Finally, they requested an acquittal on the charge of voluntary manslaughter based on self-defense, and alternatively, that the charge be reclassified as manslaughter . The trial was adjourned until July 7 for further arguments and sentencing.
