The uniform is impeccable, personalized. Gianni Cocco swirls the milk boiler, then decorates a cappuccino with the foam in a few seconds. And he imprints creativity and professionalism on the cup. The morning began like this, for yet another day of training around Italy. As if that goal achieved a few days ago in Saint Vincent, in the splendid setting of the Grand Hotel Billia, had already been archived with ease. «I received the prestigious “Order of Merit”, a symbol of Italian excellence and hospitality in the world», says the coffee master, born in Nuoro 44 years ago. «This recognition is a sort of “Golden Ball” of coffee. I am very proud, I dedicate it to my land».
Order of Merit
A gala evening, a milestone that repays the efforts made. Gianni Cocco's adventure behind the bar counter began several years ago. First in the heart of Barbagia, in the café of his friend Giancarlo Fois. Then in Lombardy, in Milan, in the city of fashion and opportunities. The evening in Valle d'Aosta, therefore, appears to be the culmination of a virtuous path. Between hard work, a lot, and a good dose of stubbornness that is typical of the island. "Receiving such an important award from a commission of experts is very gratifying," admits Gianni Cocco, now a well-known face on national TV and a teacher at the Accademia italiana maestri del caffè and the Bruno Vanzan Academy. "Moreover, it is doubly pleasing because it is not only an award for technique and work done to date, but also highlights "the contribution in spreading the values of Italian hospitality in the world"".
