Alarm in Nuoro due to numerous telephone scam attempts on the elderly.

It was launched by the Police Headquarters, who also explain the modus operandi of the criminals: pensioners are contacted by individuals who identify themselves as lawyers, law enforcement agents or as "friends" and communicate that one of their relatives has been the victim of road accidents or other difficulties, and then ask for sums of money to be given immediately to deal with the problem.

But, as mentioned, these are subtle attempts at deception.

The Police Headquarters itself therefore launches an appeal to remain on guard: «The holidays are approaching and unscrupulous scammers are back on the hunt for someone to scam. The bad guys stop at nothing and always look for victims, especially lonely and defenseless elderly people, who during holiday periods could be even more affected by their loneliness and therefore be more vulnerable."

«The State Police – continues the note – is always present and renews the invitation to stay close to your elderly loved ones, to raise awareness and warn them against possible scams. In case of doubt, it is recommended to always contact the single emergency number 112 to report suspicious and dangerous situations."
