The cyclist who, this morning around 11.30, was hit by a car while proceeding on provincial road 81 on his mountain bike to return home, is hospitalized in serious condition in the intensive care unit of the civil hospital of Sassari .
The man, Carlo Piturru, 72 , born in La Maddalena but residing in Porto Torres, lost his helmet in the impact, then fell a few meters before hitting his head against the windscreen of the Subaru . The 87-year-old driver of the car, according to an initial reconstruction, hit him on the rear wheel while arriving in the same direction, on the stretch of road between Abbacurrrente and Balai Lontano.
A violent impact: the cyclist was thrown forward a few meters, ending up on the windshield and then on the ground. The driver of the car immediately intervened and alerted the emergency services. Two ambulances were on site, one from the Sardinian Rescue and one medicalized. The wounded man was transferred to the Santissima Annunziata in red code aboard the 118 air rescue.
