A moved crowd at the funeral of Paolo Sanna, 69, a victim “by mistake” of the massacre on Via Ichnusa in Nuoro. The City’s banner was next to him.

Loving words from Don Giovanni Maria Chessa in his homily: "Our weakness in the face of such a tragedy is great. Lord, help us in this moment of great pain to seek what truly makes us serene and strong. We are certain: Paolo is in your hands and we are gathered here around the altar of your son Jesus to ask you to have mercy on him. Paolo loved his wife, his daughters, his sons-in-law, his friends, his work, singing. And we ask ourselves humanly: why death? But you, Lord, who are beyond death, welcome him for the love he was capable of."

Lord, the parish priest continues, "we are here to pray and ask you to stay close to the family, to those who knew and loved him. We are all deeply concerned about our city that is experiencing this tragedy. Lord, do not allow it to be an event that we archive from tomorrow morning, do not allow us to forget the tragedies, but make sure that they are teachings. We make a final request to you, God of all consolation, we ask you to ask the Blessed Virgin to comfort and console us. We entrust to you the soul of our brother Paolo who sang so many times for the Blessed Virgin Mary".

One of his loved ones recited St. Augustine at the end of the mass.
