24 hours on a stretcher in the emergency room of the San Francesco hospital in Nuoro , in precarious hygienic conditions, before being transferred to the medical department. It is the treatment reserved for an elderly woman in recent days: the case, reported by the woman's family, has now reached the Regional Council.
The councilor of the Democratic Party, Roberto Deriu , presented a question addressed to the regional health councilor, Carlo Doria: «I express disdain and concern for what happened», says the representative of the Dems. «An episode which, however, is only the tip of the iceberg : the emergency room at San Francesco has been in emergency mode for some time, with patients forced to wait hours before being examined. The numerous complaints from citizens", continues Deriu, "tell a system that is poorly functioning and contrary to the principles of protection of the right to treatment of all patients. It happens due to the dramatic condition of the hospital which suffers from a high shortage of doctors and nurses compared to the necessary needs and forces the staff present to work in inhumane conditions."
Here the PD councilor asks for measures: «Urgent and decisive interventions are needed for the serious problems affecting the local health system», he concludes. "It is a duty to guarantee the right to care for patients and dignified conditions for workers."
