"Don't believe the fake news about the mayor of Olbia saying he shouldn't feed stray dogs." Showgirl Elisabetta Canalis, in Olbia for her usual summer vacation, defends the mayor of the Gallura capital, Settimo Nizzi, who has been attacked on social media (including by well-known animal rights activist Enrico Rizzi) for an ordinance prohibiting feeding stray dogs in the city's manufacturing district.

From the Fratelli Minori shelter, run by Lida, which the former showgirl has supported for years, Elisabetta Canalis posted a video on Instagram to explain the reasons behind the mayor's decision.

"Don't believe those who say the mayor of Olbia is evil, he's not: some people have taken advantage of the news to slam him." And with a dog in his arms, rescued and recovered in Olbia's industrial area, he continues: "I feel like defending the mayor because the industrial area is a factory of puppies and strays, and the only way to stop this phenomenon is not to feed the dogs indiscriminately but to sterilize them."
