A final blow to the head that disfigured his face, preceded by a gunshot to the side. These are the elements that emerged today during the autopsy on the body of Francesco Cidu, the 66-year-old farmer from Gavoi killed 4 days ago in his sheepfold, in the countryside of the town.

The examination was carried out at the San Martino hospital in Oristano by the medical examiner Roberto Demontis. It was confirmed that the death occurred many hours before the discovery - which occurred around 8pm -, i.e. in the morning when Cidu was opening the gate to the land for his day's work.

The killer - but there could have been two of them - shot the man in the side when he got out of the car. Then once he fell to the ground they delivered a second blow to the head.

In short, a full-scale ambush like many in the history of crimes in Barbagia, as reconstructed by the Carabinieri of the Nuoro Investigative Unit coordinated in the investigation by Prosecutor Andrea Ghironi, shortly after the discovery of the body.

The murder shocked the Gavoi community, which describes him as a quiet man.

Even if the breeder had precedents behind him: on 20 December 2022 he was acquitted together with his son Mauro of the accusation of having slaughtered lambs and set fire to a company in Lodine, not far from his sheepfold. But in addition to the victim's past, the investigators look at the five attacks that have occurred in Gavoi in recent months and do not rule out connections with this murder.
