Riccardo Pittau, a 20-year-old from Guspini who competes with the “Il Castello di Sardara” motorcycle club, is in critical condition. He was injured yesterday at the regional motocross race in the Gonnesa arena during the competition reserved for the Mx1 category.
The accident occurred around 4:30 pm during the last heat before the final awards ceremony. The motorcyclist – who had already won the motocross championship in 2018 and was leading the race at the time – took a curve, then jumped and landed on the edge of the track. It was then that his Honda 450 slipped away from him and he remained immobile on the dirt : the impact would have caused several injuries.
Pittau, who lost consciousness after the crash, was resuscitated with a defibrillator and his condition stabilized to allow transportation on the 118 helicopter that accompanied him to the Brotzu hospital in Cagliari.
The prognosis is reserved. The race has been suspended.
