Graziano Mesina's two lawyers have requested all the medical documentation of the former scarlet primrose of Sardinian banditry ,who died last April 12 from a tumor in the hospital ward of the San Paolo hospital in Milan, less than 24 hours after his release from prison for health reasons.

It could be the beginning of a legal action, the aim of Maria Luisa Vernier and Beatrice Goddi is to verify whether the rights of the sick prisoner have been respected .

«We requested the file from the Opera prison, where Messina had been hospitalized for the last six months in the clinical center, and the health documentation from San Paolo from February 14, 2025 , the day he was hospitalized for checks, until last weekend», explains Maria Luisa Vernier.

This is a first step, the lawyers point out. Before taking legal action, a mandate from Messina's relatives is needed, and the documentation will have to be analyzed by an expert .

Messina had been in prison since December 2021 serving a 24-year sentence for drug trafficking , after spending a year and a half on the run and being captured in Desulo.

He had first been in the Nuoro prison of Badu 'e Carros, then locked up for two years in the Milanese prison of Opera, but already a year after his imprisonment he had started to feel ill.

Seven requests for release for health reasons were presented by the two lawyers starting from March 2023. Only the last one was accepted , when the disease had reached its terminal stage, but Messina was unable to return to his Orgosolo. He died less than 24 hours after his release.
