A historical figure of Sardinian tourism. The king of folk, Vincenzo Atzeri, 80, died today in hospital leaving great emotion in Maracalagonis , where he has always lived.

An extraordinary character who brought Sardinian popular traditions and the name of Maracalagonis to the world . He did it with folk, costumes, singing, cooking. At least fifty years in the spotlight.

Tireless, he never stopped, taking care of everything down to the smallest detail. A gentleman, a tourist entrepreneur, a lover of music and Sardinian costume. Stopping at Casa Atzeri, spending an evening among the greenery of the vegetable garden, the smell of roasts, dessert, a good glass of wine, was simply fascinating.

The launeddas of the legendary Aurelio Porcu di Villaputzu, the same magical voice in limba of the king of folk, gave Italian, American, Russian tourists everywhere the chills. Here have arrived ministers, great showmen, festive groups, lovers of good food and folk amidst singing, dancing and magnificent roasts . In addition to is culurgionis and the desserts prepared by his wife Ninetta and her collaborators.

He was always there to welcome tourists , ready to offer a good glass of local Malvasia in the courtyard strewn with myrtle leaves.

Vincenzo Atzeri was also founder and president of the Pro Loco, president of the folk group with which he has been since the seventies and eighties in every part of the world : from Australia to Mexico to the United States.
