Carabinieri from the Maracalagonis station have reported a 48-year-old unemployed man, currently resident in Corongiu, at large for the crimes of receiving stolen goods and illegal waste management.

The investigation began following several reports received by the military regarding the presence of abandoned cars in a rural area of the municipality. The Carabinieri, after verifying the veracity of the information, began a targeted investigation, which led to the identification of an isolated area apparently transformed into an open-air landfill.

Having organised an inspection, the military were able to ascertain that, within a piece of land attributable to the man, several stolen vehicles were kept, as well as numerous special waste and waste materials piled up in an uncontrolled manner and without any authorisation .

The investigations led to the seizure of the vehicles, which will be returned to their rightful owners, and the precautionary seizure of the affected area. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the recovered materials and determine the possible involvement of other individuals.

The operation demonstrates the Carabinieri's constant commitment to environmental protection and land conservation, areas in which they engage daily through targeted enforcement and a widespread presence that allows them to promptly detect situations of degradation or illegality, thus contributing to the safety and well-being of local communities.
