Pietro Contena was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the fast-track trial for the murder of Luca Goddi , the 47-year-old killed on August 4, 2023, in the center of Orune . The preliminary hearing judge of the Nuoro Court, Alessandra Ponti, made the decision after a lengthy deliberation.

The judge upheld the prosecution's case, presented by public prosecutor Ireno Satta , who had requested a 20-year sentence. The civil parties , represented by lawyers Pasquale Ramazzotti, Lorenzo Soro, and Nicoletta Mani, reiterated the defendant's responsibility, citing the circumstantial evidence based on wiretaps, video surveillance images, and other evidence gathered during the investigation . The defense , represented by lawyer Basilio Brodu, requested an acquittal, challenging the interpretation of the wiretaps, the interpretation of the images, and the overall validity of the circumstantial evidence.

In recent hearings, the trial focused on the new audio analysis ordered by the judge on three wiretapped conversations, considered crucial by the defense, which, according to the court-appointed expert, contained no self-accusatory statements. This argument did not allow the rest of the circumstantial evidence gathered by the Carabinieri of the Nuoro Provincial Command to be affected.
