Swimmers fleeing, about 200 cars trapped, dozens destroyed by the flames, a kiosk devastated. We are in Punta Molentis, Villasimius , one of the jewels of the Sarrabus coastline, devastated by fire in what has been yet another day of hell for the wildfire front in Sardinia.
On Sunday, flames engulfed the area between Castiadas and Villasimius. First, a towering column of black smoke visible for kilometers, then the blaze gradually approached despite desperate efforts to contain it, involving two Canadair aircraft, a firefighting helicopter, aircraft from the regional fleet, and an Italian Air Force vehicle.
At Punta Molentis , flames fanned by the mistral wind threatened hundreds of beachgoers who had come to enjoy a Sunday of sun and sea. Instead, they experienced a veritable ordeal . They were forced to flee en masse, including by sea thanks to the intervention of the Coast Guard, the Guardia di Finanza, and the Fire Brigade.
A kiosk was destroyed by the fire, and approximately 200 cars were trapped in the parking lot. Dozens of vehicles were destroyed, as can be seen from images from the area. Some attempted to save their vehicles by desperately trying to escape to the beach, but were stuck in the sand.
The environmentalists of the Grig speak of an environmental disaster and sing the "De profundis" for Punta Molentis, a jewel that "no longer exists" .
To manage the emergency, in addition to aircraft, several teams of forestry officers, firefighters, Forestas and volunteers were also in action.
And the Sarrabus emergency wasn't the only one. The nightmare returns to Villacidro, where the fire that devastated the countryside two days ago, destroying 500 hectares of land and businesses and forcing families to flee, has flared up again today . The flames broke out in the Cabriolu area, and the situation there is also very serious and far from resolved: two Canadair aircraft, two Forestry Corps vehicles, and one Air Force vehicle are on site .
Flames also broke out in Osilo (a Candair and three helicopters from the regional fleet in Rio Badu Canu) and in Soleminis , in the S'Arutta area. Other fires are being extinguished in Olbia and Gergei. A total of 26 fires broke out on the island this Sunday, July 27th .
