"I wasn't driving." This is what Nicola Ibba, 38 years old, told the Carabinieri of Dolianova after showing up at the barracks this morning: the soldiers had been looking for him since 4.30 yesterday, when they intervened on State Road 387, between the Soleminis and Settimo crossroads, to carry out investigations into the accident that cost the life of Daniele Picciau, 32 years old, from Dolianova .
The victim was traveling in a BMW with three other friends. Nobody was wearing a belt. Picciau was in the passenger seat, in front, and in the impact against the guardrail, at kilometer 14,200, there was no escape for him. Two other occupants of the vehicle, the owner Nicola Dessì, from Dolianova, and Gregorio Gervasi, were injured and were transported to hospital: the second has a broken cervical vertebra. The third occupant, Ibba, had disappeared.
He remained untraceable until , approximately 30 hours after the accident, this morning he was accompanied by his lawyer, Antonella Saba, to answer the police's questions. The interrogation of the thirty-eight year old now accused of vehicular homicide lasted all morning.
Ibba, who does not have a driving licence, denied being behind the wheel of the car that crashed. He would also have named the person who, according to him, was behind the wheel.
He would have walked away and made himself unavailable because, he said, he was in shock. And he would start walking aimlessly.
The police are not convinced by this version. And they proceed with the investigation.
