"He was in a pool of blood, we thought he'd been gored by a cow or a calf."

Today the dramatic story of the discovery of the body of Esperino Giobbe , a 73-year-old farmer killed on 17 October 2020 in his company, was staged in the Court of Assizes in Nuoro, a murder of which his 41-year-old nephew Gian Michele Giobbe is accused , who worked with him.

The victim's wife and daughter recalled those moments.

«At 11 – said Giovanna Maria Sale – my husband had not yet returned home, so we started calling him on his cell phone but he didn't answer. My daughter and I went to the company, his car was parked there but he wasn't. We immediately called Gian Michele, who then found Esperino's body in the cattle pen lying in a pool of blood . At that point we called 118 and the carabinieri ».

The testimony of Maria Chiara Giobbe, daughter of the victim: «Gian Michele immediately told us that my father had died and was very surprised because he had told us that he had seen him alive on the farm around 11. We thought of an accident at work, a calf or a cow might have gored him. Nothing foreshadowed a murder, also because my father had no enemies ».

A few days later the autopsy revealed the farmer's cause of death, 15 blows to the head violently with a blunt object, perhaps an iron bar . The nephew ended up in prison several months later, on June 9, 2021, stuck by a bloodstain found on his boot whose DNA was compatible with that of his uncle.

According to the indictment, the motive lies in the disputes over the management of some land in the countryside of Sa Serra , which is why another nephew of the victim, Gian Mario Giobbe, is being investigated.

The trial has been adjourned to December 12 when six other prosecution witnesses will be heard.
