Crowd in Oniferi to say their final farewell to the mayor Davide Muledda, who died on Thursday after a serious illness discovered only two weeks ago . In the church of Sant'Anna there is so much silence and emotion. In the homily, the parish priest Don Ruggero Bettarelli underlines his love for the town, reciprocated by the people of Onifera and the neighboring municipalities with which he had established a strong bond.
In February, Davide saw his car on fire during a party in the village. Don Ruggero begins his homily like this: «In February we met in the square to demonstrate our solidarity after what happened - he says -. There were many of us, and there are just as many of us today, but to make our prayers heard, especially to his wife Luisanna, his daughter Nicole and his family. Davide now finds himself at the entrance to a new life, and here he leaves his good example. He had the courage to be a lawyer, to hold numerous positions, until he became mayor. He was the mayor of every villager, he contacted us and spoke with everyone personally, without intermediaries. He was present and fought for his country. Now we must continue his mission, and cultivate the love he gave to us."
The parish priest brought the message of closeness to the family of Bishop Antonello Mura. Next to the coffin the banner, the colleagues, the authorities. A moment that reached its peak with the sweet and courageous intervention of his daughter Nicole, just 9 years old: «Hi dad. I wish I had you for longer, but that's how it went. I'm sure we'll meet again. I only have these words. I love you".
Among the applause that honored the mayor there was also the intervention of Maria Luisa Ariu of the CISL: «A good and loyal person, a fundamental resource available to the community. We are proud to have met you." The deputy mayor of Oniferi Antonello Piras was moved and spoke of the strong bond even within the municipality: «Our beloved mayor. His commitment, his passion were a light for our country. His vision was great, he wanted a welcoming country and he wanted the issues to be thoroughly understood in order to be able to address and resolve them. "Adiosu", Davide, your memory will always be alive in us."
