Environmental disaster in the Teulada Polygon, four civil parties admitted
In Cagliari, new sit-in of the anti-militarists at the Palace of Justice
The judge for the preliminary hearings of the Court of Cagliari has admitted as civil parties the Sardinia Region and the Legambiente associations, the Legal Intervention Group and the Let's Throw the Bases committee , excluding the Military Party and a group of citizens of Teulada who had filed a request of constitution. On the other hand, the request for admission from the Ministry of Defense as civilian responsible was accepted.
Thus decided the judge Giuseppe Pintori during the preliminary hearing in Cagliari which will have to decide on the request for indictment of five generals , all former chiefs of staff, who ended up under investigation for environmental disaster as part of the investigation of the Public Prosecutor's Office. After an initial archiving request from the Prosecutor's Office, the investigating judge Alessandra Tedde had asked the prosecutor Emanuele Secci to formulate the charge of environmental disaster against the last chiefs of staff held responsible for what happened in Teulada: Giuseppe Valotto, 76 years old from Venice ; Claudio Graziano, 69, from Turin, today head of the Military Committee of the European Union; Danilo Errico, also a 69-year-old resident of Turin; Domenico Rossi, 71, from Rome, and Sandro Santroni, 72, from Ancona. They are all assisted by the lawyers Guido Manca Bitti, Luca Montella, Cristina Graziano and Luigi Vincenzo.
While the preliminary hearing was being held at the Palazzo, outside a group of Sardinian anti-militarists started a protest sit-in .
The investigations of the Cagliari Public Prosecutor's Office would have ascertained the state of compromise of the so-called "Delta peninsula", the heart of the polygon: a rectangle of land of just over three kilometers where in a few years, from 2008 to 2016, 860 thousand shots were fired training, with 11,875 missiles, equal to 556 tons of war material.
On 23 September there will be a discussion and the prosecutor Secci will decide whether to ask for an indictment.
