He had been trying to book a colonoscopy for months, then – almost miraculously – he got the OK from the receptionist: «We have a free date. Is November 27 okay with you?". Nothing to dispute, except that the year in question is 2024, therefore more than a year away. This is what happened to Anna, an 87-year-old from Alghero with serious walking problems.

The story is told by his nephew Franco who, after witnessing the phone call with the Cup, decided "not to pretend nothing happened, because this story is incredible ". But it all started a few months ago. «My aunt needed to have this check-up done. But at the beginning they even told us that it was not possible to book the visit to Sardinia . The options were therefore either to leave or go to a private individual. Then, with a new prescription in hand, we tried again and a window actually opened: too bad it's too far away. At the moment we don't know if my aunt will still be alive by that date, all this is unacceptable", explains the relative.

Having rejected the proposal, there now remains the hope of being able to find, in the next few days, new availability that «is also compatible with my aunt's conditions. Her advanced age and her health problems do not allow her to go to any hospital. This time they offered us Sassari but this would mean having to face a difficult trip and spending at least one night out, before hospitalization. And my aunt can't face such a journey", continues Franco. With the disappointment, the concern and annoyance for «this healthcare system, which is in total disarray, also grows. Nowadays the only solution is to go to some private person for a fee. But have you seen the prices? Too high. This is why I decided to speak out: because ours is not an isolated case but too many people don't say anything and leave it alone. But this time we chose not to stay silent : this is our story."
