Six convictions and three acquittals.
Prosecutor Paolo Piras reiterated, yesterday in court in Sassari, his requests in the trial in which nine doctors are accused of manslaughter for the death of 73-year-old Carlo Dessole in March 2018 .
The expert reports ordered by Judge Claudia Sechi to investigate the doctors' conduct did not change the magistrate's mind, who returned to the crux of the matter: the operation, in his opinion, performed late on the patient .
The pensioner from Sassari had been hospitalized at the beginning of March 7 years ago for the “unanchoring” of a stent and the surgery had been scheduled within a week. But the situation worsened due to the consequences of the rupture of an aneurysm and the man died shortly after the conclusion of the surgery on the operating table .
For Piras, tests such as CT scans were a waste of time and the figures provided by experts Ernesto D'Aloja and Fabio Verzini on the mortality rate of those who suffered a type 1 B endoleak (78%), as in the case of Dessole, did not convince him. Endoleak refers to the persistence of flow inside the aneurysm (aneurysmal sac) excluded by the endoprosthesis, and B because it occurs in a specific position in the body .
For these reasons the prosecutor urged the requests of the previous discussion: minimum sentences for Eugenio Martelli, Franco Piredda, Maria Antonietta Casu, Anastasia Gabriella Tucconi, Roberto Mancino and Sandro Ciccarello, asking for acquittal for Salvatora Dettori, Pierluigi Tilocca and Gianfranco Fadda .
Lawyers Mario Pittalis and Andrea Russo, who are assisting Dessole's family, have revoked their own incorporation in order to be able to pursue compensation claims in civil court.
Yesterday all the parties and the lawyers Francesco Porcu, Guido Datome, Filippo Orecchioni, Salvatore Porcu, Amedeo Mandras, Sebastiano Chironi, Luigi Esposito, Gianluigi Poddighe, Carlo Pinna Parpaglia, Ivano Iai argued.
