The alarm after the Covid outbreak, Delta variant, registered among pilgrims returning from a trip to Medjugorje, has returned, Sardinia is dealing with another concern, the most contagious mutation, Delta Plus, which was found on the swab carried out to a 42-year-old from Sulcis.

The patient is vaccinated, is well and has been placed in solitary confinement at home.

After the sequencing carried out by the laboratory of the university hospital of Cagliari, the tracing of contacts began to reconstruct the chain of contagion.

It is not certain whether the man has been out of Sardinia in the last period or has remained on the island or only in the municipality of residence: the fear is that the infection occurred in the region and that Delta Plus, never detected so far, is instead circulating.

The protection given by the vaccine, however, seems to hold up well and also for this reason the ministry and the commissioner structure are asking the Regions to speed up with the third doses of the vaccine and to work harder to convince those who have not yet even done the first.

"We have to push people to take the first and third dose - said Pierpaolo Sileri, Undersecretary of Health -. Science today shows us that vaccines work, but that this immunity tends to decline over time. For this we need a reinforcement ”.
