The environmental remediation of the Poetto beach in Cagliari continues from the thousands of nylon bags present on the shoreline. As explained by the Legal Intervention Group (GrIG), "the Port Authority of Cagliari - State Property and Maritime Police Section responded (prot. note n. 9461 of 14 March 2023) to the fifth instance of civic access, environmental information and adoption of necessary environmental reclamation measures forwarded (February 14, 2023)” presented by the ecological association “and provided elements that seem to indicate the next definitive environmental reclamation ”.
"In Cagliari - continues the GrIG - to indicate something that goes on for a long time we say sa factory de sant'Anna, because the well-known church in the historic district of Stampace was begun in 1785 and finished in 1938, it was destroyed by bombing in 1943 and reopened for worship (this time after a rapid restoration) after the war. The popular saying fits the situation very well, but slowly it seems that we are coming to the end of this painful soap opera".
Retracing the story , the association recalls that “the RAS, Servizio Demanio e Patrimonio, with the Directorial Determination n. 26 prot. 1053 of 12/01/2022 authorized the concessionary company to remove the bags and outcropping filaments”. Subsequently, "the same entrusted the work for the removal of the bags to a third party company and ... the latter in the period between the month of May and the month of September 2022 removed about 1600 plastic bags from the beach, temporarily deposited in special containers in a confined area of the same plant and subsequently sent for disposal/recovery operations through the authorized company; other bags (about 150) were removed, directly by personnel employed by the concessionary company, in the period between October 2022 and February 2023".
Following the joint inspection of last February 20, in the presence of the staff of the Harbor Master's Office, the Municipality - Soil Hygiene Service, the State Property and Heritage Service Region of Cagliari, the State Property Maritime sector and the Local Police Corps for Environmental Supervision of Cagliari, it was verified that “recent storms have resulted in the surfacing, mainly in the part of the shoreline in front of the concession, of further nylon bags and filaments due to their deterioration. The bags recovered between October 2022 and February 2023 are deposited in the area indicated...", in two containers, "waiting to be sent to the subsequent disposal/recovery operations".
Finally, it was decided that "the company Il Lido srl will have to continue to provide for the constant removal of the new bags and filaments that have surfaced and those that will eventually emerge in the future, in compliance with the directives that will be issued by the competent Maritime State Property sector of the RAS within the 'special deed of renewal of the authorisation'.
