Distracted driving and smartphone use while driving are the main causes of collisions in the city over the past 18 months. There were 69 accidents in the first half of 2026 alone, practically one accident every two days. This figure is dangerously close to 100 for the whole of 2025, or approximately one accident every three days.

The percentage is also increasing in relation to the total accidents recorded by the local police: last year it was about 10%, while in 2026 it rose to over 12%. This is a worrying trend, especially since almost all those involved ended up in the hospital. Two of the 69 hit this year were hospitalized with critical injuries, compared to three in 2025.

San Benedetto and Monte Urpinu, according to the numbers, are the two neighborhoods with the most investments, with 28 and 23, respectively, in the last 18 months. The Via Roma area also saw 20 investments. Is Mirrionis, San Michele, Pirri, Quartiere del Sole, and Sant'Avendrace also reached double figures.

Among the most dangerous roads is Viale Poetto, with four accidents recorded in the first six months of 2026, three of which were at the intersection with Via S'Arrulloni.
