It has been a “temporary” location for fifty years. Now there is a final date for the permanence of the Alberti scientific high school in viale Colombo in Cagliari : 31 December 2024.

The building that houses the institute is a state property managed by the Port Authority and had been rented with contracts extended several times. But the property, with the entire surrounding area, is part of a gigantic redevelopment project which, apparently, is incompatible with the presence of students and teachers.

The last deadline granted by the Authority on 7 March, following a letter addressed to Minister Valditara and the local authorities and after a public protest, is precisely that of the end of the year '24. For the future - and above all to give the school a safe and definitive location - the "A headquarters for the Liceo Alberti" committee was born on the initiative of a group of teachers, parents and students.

«Despite the promises made in the spring», explains the committee, «to date the identification of a definitive and suitable location has not yet been made known. Given the limited time frame of the latest extension, there are no concrete possibilities on the horizon for the renovation of some laboratories and classrooms in one of the sea wings of the building, declared unusable a year ago, which will therefore remain so for this school year too ».

The SOS is for the metropolitan city: «Invest the available funds in a new building that is adequate», attacks the committee, «both in quality and size for its present and future users, currently divided into three locations quite distant from each other». The request is for a new headquarters near the Piazza Matteotti area. «It appears unsustainable», continues the committee, «a proposal that moves the Liceo Alberti away from its historic location, asking the many commuter students and their families to make further sacrifices in terms of mobility, timetables, costs, while also worsening urban traffic congestion» .
