All seven outbreaks of Lumpy Skin Disease, the contagious nodular dermatitis of cattle, discovered in Sarrabus have been extinguished .

Yesterday the last one, the one detected in Muravera on May 15th , was declared extinct.

This is what we read in the national veterinary epidemiological bulletin of the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Abruzzo, an Italian reference center.

A total of 31 cattle were slaughtered, three of which died. A further 250 animals were slaughtered on farms between San Vito, Muravera, Ballao, and Villaputzu .

In light of the bulletin, Sarrabus farmers are now awaiting a full reopening of movement . On May 8th, the ministry had approved travel, but only outside the health surveillance zone of 50 kilometers from the identified outbreaks.
