Traffic slowed on state highway 131 near Abbasanta due to a violent hailstorm that hit the area in the early afternoon.
Another sudden thunderstorm in Sardinia, caused by a cold air infiltration that weakened the high pressure system responsible for the scorching heat of recent days and the coming days.
Yesterday, a storm accompanied by violent gusts of wind hit Iglesias and the surrounding countryside , leaving behind heavy damage to roads, private gardens, and homes. The incessant rain and wind caused branches to fall in many areas of the city. Several homes and basements were flooded.
The regional Civil Protection Department has extended the yellow alert for thunderstorms and flood risk until 9:00 PM this evening for Iglesiente, Campidano, Montevecchio Pischinappiu, Tirso, and Logudoro.
