"Talking about the crime of a territory does not mean defaming, but saving that territory."
This is what Roberto Saviano said on his social media channels, in response to the controversy sparked by a previous video of his in which the writer analysed the attack on two armoured vehicles on the Aurelia , in the province of Livorno, hypothesising that a gang of Sardinian criminals could be behind the robbery.
«After uploading the video to YouTube – says Saviano – I received typical comments, as already happened in Campania and Sicily: “How dare you speak badly of Sardinia?”».

Saviano however replies: «Dealing with organized crime, in this case Sardinian, does not mean speaking badly of a territory. On the contrary, it is “shining light” on a problem of the territory and being loyal to this territory».

This is because – adds the writer, also quoting statements by the prosecutor Luigi Patronaggio – «Sardinia is dripping with crime» and we cannot just talk about «the blue sea, the caciotta cheese or how beautiful art is», but we must also shed light on a «gigantic problem» that must be told «without nationalistic silence».
