In the investigation into the murder of Vincenzo Beniamino Marongiu, murdered on 9 July 2024 in Arzana, following the annulment by the Court of Cassation of the previous release orders, the Court of Review of Cagliari has issued the precautionary measure of house arrest against the brothers of Sandro Arzu, who committed suicide in prison, Roberto (57 years old) and Sergio (65), as well as the latter's son, Gianluca (26). The measure was carried out yesterday evening.

The complex investigation conducted by the Operations Unit of the Lanusei Carabinieri Company and coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of the Cagliari Prosecutor's Office, which on May 26, 2025, led to the issuing and subsequent validation of arrest warrants for five people on suspicion of crime.

The evidence that emerged during the investigation, conducted with the assistance of the Investigative Units of the Provincial Carabinieri Commands of Cagliari and Nuoro and the Carabinieri Company of Carbonia, outlined the alleged circumstances of the murder: the murderer of Marongiu was Sandro Arzu (who committed suicide in prison a few days after his arrest), who had been missing since March 2023. Arzu was apparently protected by a monitoring and support network: his brothers Roberto and Sergio and his nephew Gianluca were reportedly present at the crime scene. Their task was to monitor Marongiu's movements and keep an eye on him to ensure the ambush was successful.
