The toll from the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in the Monti Russo pine forest , a site of community interest in the Aglientu area, is increasingly heavy .

Despite the work of the Forestry Corps and the entire regional fire-fighting machine, during the night the flames continued to devour large areas near the beaches of Monti Russu and Lu Litarroni .

Canadair and Forestry Corps helicopter airdrops resumed at dawn. The fire has already spread through approximately 30 hectares of pine forest and touched several farmsteads. The sewage treatment plant in a village near provincial road 90, the Santa Teresa in Castelsardo, was severely damaged.

Investigators from the Tempio Pausania forestry inspectorate have identified the fire's starting point. Investigations are underway on site, including forestry teams, firefighters, Carabinieri, volunteers from Gallura's civil protection associations, and personnel from the Aglientu local police force, who were the first to respond to evacuate swimmers from the area's beaches. Firefighting operations are still ongoing .
