Abuses on minors, the diocesan listening center opens in Cagliari: it is the first in Sardinia
Cases on the rise, the most affected are children under 14The diocesan listening center opens in Cagliari - the first in Sardinia out of 125 in Italy -, a service to support minors and families studied by the Diocese to create a great alliance to combat the phenomenon of abuse and mistreatment of minors in the ecclesial and other spheres contexts starting from the family one.
The archbishop of Cagliari and vice-president of the Italian Bishops' Conference, Giuseppe Baturi, announced among the actions to combat violence also the creation of an observatory that involves the University to aggregate the data and highlight the context in which the facts take place. More was discussed during a conference that was held in the Aula magna of the archiepiscopal seminary: " The protection of minors in educational relations ", promoted by the Diocese of the Sardinian capital and by the Service for the protection of minors and vulnerable people, in collaboration with Giulia Sardinia journalists, Casa Emmaus, the Regional Order of Journalists and the Order of Lawyers.
THE NUMBERS - "Abuses on the internet are growing, violence in presence does not decrease, mostly in the family environment, and the most victimized are girls, the group with the highest number of victims is those under 14", he found Fabrizio Mustaro, manager of the mobile squad of the Cagliari Police Headquarters.
In Italy, in 2021, there were 5,316 cases of child pornography treated by the Postal Police, with an increase of 47% compared to the previous year (3,243). The number of minors lured on the web by adults is also growing, 531, mostly under the age of 13 (almost 64% in the 10-13 year range), but cases of online solicitation of children in the range are also growing. 0-9 years (32 cases).
For Sardinia, according to the data provided by the Police Headquarters, in 2021 the crimes affecting minors are: sexual violence with 20 cases, the same number as in 2020; the abuse of the means of correction with 8 cases against 3 in 2020 (+ 166%); pornography with 3 episodes (+ 50% compared to 2020) and abandonment of minors with 15 cases against 8 in 2020.
This year, in the first 4 months alone, there have already been 6 sexual violence , three cases of neglect of minors, 1 case of abuse of corrective means and 2 of child pornography.
