Pensions, in Sardinia ten thousand euros lost in ten years
The unions' alarm: "Growing inflation and ridiculous adjustments, too many elderly people have to choose between eating or getting medical care"Per restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
Considered privileged for decades, now tens of thousands of pensioners risk slipping into the unenvied category of the new poor . The Island is no exception, because according to the Uil even in Sardinia in the last ten years pension checks have had to suffer a loss of purchasing power that has fluctuated from just over 2 thousand to almost 10 thousand euros.
A slow but inexorable mockery that has seen the checks never fully adjusted to the increase in inflation , to the anger of the trade unions that for years have been saying "enough" to the operation systematically conducted by the last governments in office to find emergency resources by applying cuts to the incomes of former workers.
"The decrease in purchasing power is reflected in the daily lives of pensioners ," explained Rinaldo Mereu, secretary of Uilp Sardinia, who relaunches the dispute and underlines the need for intervention to protect the elderly population by asking for the opening of a dialogue with the Regional Council. Mimmo Contu, general secretary of Fnp Cisl Sardinia , specifies: "The pensioner measures the quality of life above all on two things: shopping and health care. Both have worsened. In 2024, Sardinia is among the top three regions for the increase in inflation. This has meant a reduction in real income equal to just over 5% compared to 2019. The Sardinian pensioner thus finds himself at a crossroads, choosing whether to eat or seek treatment . Today, for many elderly people, there are no alternatives." Giacomo Migheli, regional leader of the Cgil pensioners , also agrees: "Obtaining a revaluation of pensions of 0.8% in 2025 is a disgrace ."
