"Working cannot mean putting one's life at risk": this is how the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella , on the occasion of the 72nd national day for the victims of accidents at work of the Anmil, which this year sees the main ceremony in Fiume Veneto (Pordenone).
"The numbers of victims of accidents at work, despite the numerous regulatory measures with which we have tried, over time, to prevent them, are alarming , dramatic ", continues Mattarella. "This is why the National Day for the Victims of Workplace Accidents is a precious opportunity to draw attention to an unacceptable phenomenon in a modern country that has placed work at the foundation of democratic life".
DATA - According to Inail, in Italy the reports of accidents at work presented between January and August were 484,561 ( + 38.7% compared to the same period of 2021), 677 of which with a fatal outcome (-12.3%) .
The number of professional-related pathologies reported increased, amounting to 39,367 (+ 7.9%).
“SPEZZATE LIVES” - Numbers, therefore, which tell, as Mattarella points out, “stories of broken lives, of destroyed families, of seriously injured people, of men and women calling for justice. People who appeal to institutions, to employers, to the conscience of anyone who is in a position to make workplaces safe places, in which the dignity of the person is respected ”.
“The affirmation of rights in the workplace, first the one to life, as well as being a thermometer of civil life, is a generator of value for society, for workers, for businesses”, the conclusion.
"Every day we are forced to update the sad counter of victims at work, and even if the statistical data is decreasing, we cannot resign ourselves to an almost addictive logic to the continuous reports of accidents. In my experience I can tell you that every victim leaves their mark . All the victims leave an indelible wound because they are lives torn from their loved ones, from their families, from our society ", the words of the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Andrea Orlando.
IN SARDINIA - In the island, according to the latest Inail data updated in August , accidents are increasing: + 36.3% reports, and the data of the province of Cagliari is worrying with + 80.6%, 1,610 more than in 2021.
