There was a day of mourning this morning in San Severo, in the province of Foggia , in conjunction with the funeral of Sebastiano Marrone , the Sardinian-born carabiniere who died on 10 November last, at the age of 23, in a road accident that occurred along the provincial road 109 Lucera-San Severo.
Many people were present at the religious celebration, which took place in the Cathedral of the Apulian city: among them, family members and representatives of the civil, military and religious institutions of the city.
The coffin, draped in the Italian flag, was carried to the church by the Carabinieri. A uniform hat was placed on the coffin.
A funeral ceremony will also be held on Thursday afternoon in Buddusò, the young soldier's hometown.
According to the reconstruction of the tragedy, Marrone lost control of his service car, which crashed into a guardrail. The soldier was returning to the barracks in San Severo, where he had been serving for over a year.
