"We ask your forgiveness, forgiveness for what our son did and for the terrible pain that has been inflicted on you..."
The family of the 17-year-old who confessed to the murder of Santo Romano, the 19-year-old killed last November 2 with a gunshot to the chest in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, province of Naples , apologizes, and does so with a handwritten letter, in block letters, addressed to the victim's family. A letter made public by the suspect's lawyer, Luca Raviele, after the decision of the preliminary hearing judge Anita Polito to validate the arrest for aggravated voluntary homicide and attempted homicide.
"We are addressing the parents, grandparents, uncles, cousins, girlfriend, friends, the whole family and all the people who loved Santo - we read in the letter - we are the parents (of the 17-year-old) and we ask you for forgiveness and apology for what our son did, for the terrible pain that has been inflicted on you, for the tragedy you are experiencing."
"Losing a child is an unacceptable, inexplicable thing, a pain that will accompany you for your entire life," the manuscript continues, "our son has destroyed your family, but also ours. We are a humble family, my husband works, we have a sandwich truck, our children were raised in a normal family, of workers ." "I am the mother," the woman's letter continues, "I am not a criminal, nor affiliated with the clans. We are a normal family, like many others."
"My son was always treated and followed - the woman points out - as a child by the child neuropsychiatrist. Two years ago, he became unmanageable. Measures were taken immediately, with social services " but "he refused medicines and visits". "We are a shocked and destroyed family together with yours: we ask for forgiveness from our son".
