«None of the protagonists of this trial, starting with the father, wanted to dignify this girl with an expression of pity, if not instrumental or specious». This was stated by the Reggio Emilia prosecutor Gaetano Paci during the indictment at the trial for the murder of Saman Abbas , the 18-year-old girl of Pakistani origin who disappeared and was killed on the night between 30 April and 1 May 2021 in Novellara, in province of Reggio Emilia. "No one - added the prosecutor - has given in to a feeling of human pity towards the horror, the torment that was done to this girl".

The prosecutor then spoke of the need for a sentence "that has a sense of restitution for the outrage on life that was committed with this barbaric and brutal murder".

In the dock for the crime are Shabbar Abbas, father of

Saman and four other family members of the girl, who would have been killed for her rebellion against the impositions of the family, who was planning an arranged marriage for her.
