Newborn Baby Found Dead in Bathroom: 'Mother Drowned Her With Toilet Flush'

The newborn baby whose lifeless body was discovered yesterday in the bathroom of an apartment in Piove di Sacco (Padua) appears to have drowned.

The Padua Public Prosecutor's Office, which coordinated the investigations that led to the arrest of the little girl's mother, Melissa Russo, a 29-year-old Italian-Brazilian, explained at the end of the initial investigations: "The newborn was found dead inside the toilet and appeared to be fully formed," the prosecutors wrote. Adding: "The woman allegedly flushed the toilet water in this way, causing her to drown."

Russo, who is now in hospital, is charged with aggravated murder.
