The Milan Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a case of arson against unknown persons to shed light on the massive fire at the Bartolini warehouse in the Bovisa area of Milan .

The investigation will be coordinated by Prosecutor Marcello Viola and DDA prosecutor Paolo Storari. The criminal hypothesis was formulated as a precautionary measure to ascertain , and possibly exclude, the possibility of an attack or sabotage .

According to initial reports, the fire started from a package loaded onto a truck headed for Turin. After being loaded into the container, the package first gave off smoke and then flames.

Prosecutor Viola has just received a very general initial report, but only with the investigations conducted by the Fire Brigade and the Police Digos in the coming days will it be possible to clarify the causes of the fire and identify, for example, any traces of accelerants or other substances .

An employee's initial testimony revealed that the package first emitted smoke and then caught fire. The witness also apparently heard a noise earlier, but he will almost certainly have to be interviewed again about this.

In 2022, Prosecutor Storari led an investigation that led to the seizure of over €40 million for tax fraud involving the use of so-called "labor pools" by logistics giant BRT, formerly Bartolini. This was one of the many lines of investigation the prosecutor has pursued in recent years into the "illegal labor supply," involving the use of cooperatives and "filter" companies, and the associated exploitation of workers.
