The autopsy on the little body of Caterina, the two-and-a-half-year-old girl born premature after her mother had suffered a cardiac arrest in the eighth month of pregnancy, will take place between tomorrow and Tuesday. A family doubly stricken with grief now facing another ordeal. Everything was ready to celebrate the funeral of the little girl, admitted to the Meyer hospital in Florence with respiratory problems, when the Prosecutor of Arezzo , the province in which she lived - ordered that tests be carried out on the body to clarify the causes of death.

Meanwhile, the mother has not yet been discharged: she suffered serious neurological damage . Their story had fascinated Italy, even Gianna Nannini closely followed the evolutions and had rejoiced when, in July, the mother was able to embrace her little daughter again, their first meeting since her birth two years earlier.

“My love, I want to remember you like this – the father wrote on Facebook addressing his words to the little girl -, you are and will always be my special little girl, but unfortunately life has not been kind to you. But I swear I did and we did everything possible to make you feel like a little girl like any other. This is the worst day of my life."

An investigation into the incident is underway.
