Emotional farewell to Matilde Lorenzi, a promising skier who died in Val Senales

Pain and emotion in the packed church of San Lorenzo di Giaveno, in the province of Turin, for the last farewell to Matilde Lorenzi , the 19-year-old skiing star who died in an accident during training in Val Senales.

A ski, brought by his sister Lucrezia, was placed on the altar next to the coffin, on which a tricolour flag was placed.

"You leave us with an immense, devastating void, I've been short of breath since Monday," Lucreazia, Matilde's sister, said during the ceremony. Adding, in tears: "I'm sure that you will be the one to guide me in my choices. I am immensely grateful to have had you as a sister. Have a good downhill, Matildina."
