But she had developed acute bilateral pneumonia , which was diagnosed too late and killed her within two weeks. Thus died Elena Scanu, 49, of clear Sardinian origins, resident in Brenna, in the province of Como.

Elena Scanu, a well-known local hairdresser, first showed symptoms in mid-February. After three days of coughing and sore throat, she went to the doctor, who prescribed treatment for suspected bronchitis.

But the woman's condition continued to progressively worsen. And suddenly, she was taken to Fatebenefratelli Hospital, where her heart stopped beating.

Meanwhile, all of Brenna is mourning this tragic event, and messages of condolence are pouring in on social media. Elena Scanu was a holistic hairdresser, much loved in the village. She had decided to combine her work with a program dedicated to wellness and personal care, and many loved her.
