Isabella Internò, the ex-girlfriend of Donato "Denis" Bergamini , the footballer of Cosenza, who died under unclear circumstances on November 18, 1989 on state road 106, near the Castle of Roseto Capo Spulico, will go to trial.

The decision comes from the judge of the preliminary hearing of Castrovillari Fabio Lelio Festa, who accepted the request of the prosecutor Luca Primicerio.

Internò, who was not present in the courtroom, is accused of complicity in murder aggravated by premeditation and futile reasons.

His lawyer, the lawyer Angelo Pugliese, in his speech which lasted about three hours, illustrated the defense's arguments asking not to proceed with his client, who was instead sent to trial.

The first hearing of the trial is scheduled for next 25 October.

Instead, the woman's husband, who was under investigation for aiding and abetting in relation to the statements provided by his wife as a witness, and Raffaele Pisano, the driver of the truck that 32 years ago ended up over the body of the rossoblù midfielder, came out of the investigation.

The man at the time was tried and finally acquitted of manslaughter charges.

In those years, in fact, the thesis put forward was that of suicide, with Bergamini who, according to the first reconstructions, would have thrown himself under the wheels of the truck after an argument with his partner, who was with him.

A hypothesis that Donata, the footballer's sister, never believed. Over the years, the woman has collected various elements to reopen the investigation.

The first hearing of the trial is scheduled for next 25 October.
