As announced last week, the distribution of Meta Artificial Intelligence on WhatsApp begins in Italy.

In these hours, many users are seeing the function dedicated to conversations with AI appear on the app and on the desktop version, marked with the words “Meta AI” and a blue circle .

There is also a dedicated button to access it, in the lower right corner of the app.

The feature, which is technically a “Large language model based on Llama 3.2”, is being gradually rolled out in Italy and other EU countries .

Once you open the chat with Meta AI, a message appears with some information about usage and privacy . It is an "optional service to provide answers" - it says - that " can only read messages that people share with this tool ", without reading other conversations since they are protected by end-to-end encryption.

The notice warns against “sharing information, including sensitive information, about yourself or others that you do not want the AI to keep and use,” and that it plans to share the information with “select partners so that the AI can provide relevant responses.”

If you try to ask Meta AI if it can be disabled, the AI’s response is that it is a “feature built into the product, you cannot uninstall it,” but you can choose to “not use it.”
