With the new call still on the high seas and non-stop flights not bookable after May 14, the date on which the contract with Volotea expires, Ita Airways intervenes again, which has been the protagonist of a long battle - even legal - with low cost win flights to and from Sardinia.

The company born on the ashes of Alitalia has communicated “its will” to operate for one year on the main routes in territorial continuity to and from Sardinia according to the conditions of the Decree of the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructures and Mobility of 25 November 2021.

Ita therefore says it is willing to fly "from 15 May 2022 to 14 May 2023" from Rome Fiumicino and Milan Linate to the airports of Alghero, Cagliari and Olbia and vice versa.

"Ita Airways will guarantee daily flights with Sardinia on all six main routes in Territorial Continuity from the three Sardinian airports, thus ensuring the mobility of Sardinian citizens and the connectivity of the territories of the Region with the domestic, international and intercontinental destinations operated by Ita Airways and from its partner carriers, ”the company explains in a statement.

"Despite the extreme exceptionality of the contingent situation given by the continuous increase in the cost of fuel, which in recent weeks has recorded an increase of 40%, the national airline has decided to fly without compensation from the Sardinia Region while also guaranteeing a public service maintaining extremely advantageous rates in support of the Sardinian population to demonstrate its firm will to actively contribute to the country system and be a fundamental pillar for Italy's connectivity and economic development at a time, moreover, of profound global uncertainty ", reads the note.

THE REGION - Satisfied Christian Solinas, who speaks of a "positive turnaround" which is "the guarantee of continuity in the service and proof that the Region has worked well in all these months, setting up a system of continuity accepted by the market and in line with national and European rules ".

“This new perspective - underlines Solinas - guarantees serenity not only to Sardinian travelers, but also to tour operators who can finally plan their work relying on a certain and reliable perspective. It is the best guarantee in view of the next tourist season for the benefit of the entire economic and productive fabric of the Region. And a denial of the deliberately catastrophic forecasts of those who have tried to bend a primary interest of our land to their own needs for instrumental political propaganda ”.

For the Councilor for Transport Giorgio Todde, a "fundamental step to ensure continuity by guaranteeing the right to mobility for Sardinians and allowing the best planning of the tourist season by all operators".
